Boys Before Flowers E17 and E18 Previews

Saturday, February 28, 2009 4 comments

Links to the 8min previews for episode 17 and episode 18. A note of caution: quality is pretty bad.

General points of interest:

Episode 17
– Junpyo and Jaekyung go on a date. And consequentially half of Seoul gets destroyed.
– Jihoo and Jandi have a Meaningful Conversation by the riverside. (Another classic kdrama staple.)
– Yijung has a fight with his father; Gaeul meets Cha Eunjae. Bla bla, much angst is had by all, except for the dad, because he… is too busy making out with his students. Yes.
– Entire lolcats can be made using Junpyo’s expression when he sees that Jaekyung has shown up for breakfast at his house.
– Jaekyung shows off the engagement rings to Jandi. The bling, it blinds. (I actually think it would be cute if the two got together, but eh, not the way the manga rolls.)
– Yijung has an older brother! And he looks good! But this is just an opportunity for more pained looks from cute boys, because we all know that the middle of the drama is for being unhappy.

Episdoe 18
– Jihoo drags an exhausted Jandi away from one of her 29771863409402383821 jobs.
– Jaekyung stuffs her face in an eating binge brought on by (what else) depression. She’s discovered that Jandi is Junpyo’s true wuv. (But she’s still going to fight for herself.) Poor baby.
– True to form, Jandi falls asleep on Jihoo while he’s strumming away at the Guitar of Plot Contrivance, and he leaves her to sleep. (On a completely superficial note, I want his jacket.)
– Aaaaand Jaekyung’s eating binge continues – having demolished all the ice cream in her house, apparently she brings on the big guns at the hot springs resort with the rest of the gang. Never let it be said that kdrama heroines cannot hold their food.
– Breakfast with Jihoo, Jaekyung and Jandi. La, c’est awkward. The spectre of Junpyo and Jandi’s relationship hangs about as the gay purple elephant in the room while Jaekyung prattles cheerfully on about the upcoming engagement stuff. Jandi hones her own look of gentle constipation (you’re supposed to look like you have inner turmoil and heartache, not unhappy intestinal tracts). Jihoo, with his Super Empathy Powers, can tell something’s wrong with Jaekyung.
– It looks like Jandi’s parents have decided to move away to pay off the debt – so now she’s left alone in the city with her little brother.
– Gaeul has a chat with Eunjae, and discovers The Awful Troof: Yijung was in love with Eunjae! Eunjae was in love with Yijung! Things got screwed up! And now Eunjae is marrying the wrong brother. [Insert sadface]
– Gaeul is a brave little toaster though, because she goes off right away to confront Yijung about it.

Phew! I confess, I want to see more of the Evil Mother.

Boys Before Flowers E17 Preview

Text preview of 17:

Since JK Group and Shinhwa have been in more talks as business partners, Junpyo and Jaekyung go on their first official date. To Junpyo’s chagrin, she insists on going to places that are special to him and Jandi. (The writers must be happy, scoring so many angst points for Junpyo.)

Jaekyung can tell that Junpyo’s heart isn’t in the date, so she demands a ‘lover’s kiss’. (Give her points for trying?) Jandi and Jihoo happen to be nearby and witness the entire scene. (Sometimes I tire of drama coincidences – you’d think Seoul would be big enough for four people to run around in without meeting all the time.)

Yijung, on the other hand, has a huge fight with his father about his frequent philandering, and thinks back to his own first love. Gaeul is liking Yijung a lot better after recent adventures, and decides to take pottery lessons. Her teacher just happens to be Yijung’s first love, the beautiful and gentle Cha Eunchae. (I think that’s what the name is. I could be totally wrong.)

Note: Given what happened with this week’s previews, please do take this info with a grain of salt. The scenes all happened but were mixed in order. (Minus Junhee’s confrontation with her mom, which never appeared at all.)

Boys Before Flowers E15 Video Preview

Can’t embed, so here’s the link instead. It’s 8 minutes long.

Highlights:

– So basically Yijung talks Gaeul into getting Jandi to go to Junpyo’s birthday party.
– Jaekyung’s first impression of Junpyo really, really sucks. But she fights back, lol.
– Jihoo and Junpyo have a heart-to-heart. No beatdowns are administered.
– Jihoo also passes Jandi’s gift/card on to Junpyo, who is touched by her very kind words. (Something about not spending his birthday alone, methinks.)
– Aaand because there wasn’t enough masochism in the last few episodes, Jandi helps Jaekyung shop for her date-with-Junpyo outfit. Jaekyung also wants Jandi for her relationship consultant because Jandi seems to know Junpyo really well. *facepalm* (At least Gaeul looks disapproving.)

OMG WHUT DID THEY DO TO JIHOO’S HAIR?! I think I liked it better long.

Boys Before Flowers E16 Preview

Edited to add the 8-min video preview.

And lo, the angst continues:

Junpyo grabs a hand and drags who he thinks is Jandi out of the hall right after his engagement is announced. Unfortunately, he actually got Jaekyung by mistake. (Mistake. Yeah, right. Ha.) Jaekyung is adorably in love with Junpyo, while Jandi truly believes that Junpyo has forgotten her.

Due to the misunderstandings floating around, Jandi decides to make the breakup clear this time and hands the necklace back to Junpyo. Poor Junpyo is completely devastated and decides to give this thing with Jaekyung a try. In return, she tells Jandi (whom she considers a friend) the ‘happy news’. What can Jandi say? She congratulates Jaekyung, though she goes off to cry on her own later.

Jandi’s shoulder injury acts up, and she has to be hospitalized. Junpyo goes to visit her and sees Jihoo there. He realizes that he can’t forget about Jandi after all.

In another front, the kindly housekeeper (or manager Jung, the text isn’t too clear) tells Jandi that shortly after arriving at Macau, an employee who’d been with Junpyo for all his life committed suicide after being fired. This caused the complete turnaround in attitude from Junpyo, apparently.

Anyone who’s watched the Japanese version will remember these particular plot points. If this preview happens to be real… (I really hope this is largely speculation, because, hello, fresh plot pls) *faceplants dramatically*

Boys Before Flowers E15 Preview

The text preview for Episode 15 is out:

After her trip to Macau, Jan Di can’t seem to snap out of her post-Junpyo gloom. The best way to heal the heart, apparently, is to bury herself in work. While running an errand for the Porridge Master Boss, Jan Di visits the clinic, and sees some interesting things there. (We’re all pretty sure Ji Hoo’s grandfather owns the clinic.)

Gu Junhee comes back to Korea, and meets up with Jan Di. The latter speaks about a lot of her suppressed feelings (of misery, I would guess) to Junhee, who’s still a big sister figure for Jan Di. The things that Jan Di say evoke a feeling of deep regret in Junhee, and she goes to find her mother, Chairwoman Kang, to ask if she cannot spare Junpyo from also being sacrificed. (The implication being that one unhappy offspring who married for the good of the corporation is enough.)

Junpyo also returns for his own birthday party, to which Jan Di is personally invited, by Chairwoman Kang. She hesitates for a long time before deciding to go after all, but unfortunately she arrives in time to hear of Junpyo’s engagement.

To Junpyo (and the F4)’s shock, the fiancΓ©e is Jaekyung.

So… everything proceeds as previously expected. πŸ˜›

Painter Episode 7 Preview 2

This is what happens when you procrastinate: you find stuff on the nets about shows you’re watching.

Here’s the link, since wp is a douche and won’t let me embed: the preview is untranslated, but here’s the rough precis.

Spoiler Spoiler Spoiler

Yoon Bok is thrown to the ground by Hong Do, Jeong Hyang begs the assembled men, saying that it’s the last time. Then she gets out her suicide knife.

Switch scenes to Yoon Bok pleading with his father to let him out of a locked storeroom. Err, evil merchant dude beds Jeong Hyang but does not get her kiss. He says something, and she cries with her eyes closed.

Switch scenes to unconscious Yoon Bok being laid down by Hong Do, who tries to undo his/her clothing to make it better, but she/he stops him. Then Hong Do becomes entranced by his student…

Then in daytime, unsure time, Hong Do is drinking/eating with that other girl, the younger sis of his fellow painter.

Really cannot wait for Wednesday.

Paintings used in PotW

Wednesday, October 8, 2008 3 comments

We’ve been seeing lots of beautiful, lovely paintings from Painter on the Wind, and being completely unacquainted with Shin Yoon Bok’s original paintings, I though I’d do a wiki trawl and see what I came up with.

Lo and behold! There’s a lot of stuff that they incorporated into the show. Needless to say, this contains spoilers.

Will continually update as the show goes on…

Iljimae 19 text preview

Monday, July 21, 2008 14 comments

This in from leejunkibar.com, home of LJK enthusiasts who translated the latest text spoilers. πŸ˜€

Episode 19, spoilers ahead, you stand/sit warned.

The assassin is just about to bring his sword down on Shi Hoo when an underling brings in news about the other assassin facing down with Iljimae. He is surprised and wide-eyed.

On the other side of things, Yong gets a booklet of Kunghe’s from Shim Deok, and when he opens it, he too, is shocked.

Another day, Yongi gets close to Shi Wan to gather news about the placement of the troops and all sorts of info he’ll next for the raid on the palace. Meanwhile, the demoted Byun Shik (he’s a herder in Jeju now) finally opens up to Shi Hoo, and tells him what he has buried in his heart for a long time… Shi Hoo, upon hearing them, is shocked…

Oh my, things are getting all sorts of exciting! (And lots of shocking people in this episode too. πŸ˜€ )

Iljimae Speculation

Sunday, July 20, 2008 7 comments

The end is nigh!

Also, here’s some music for you to enjoy – Ginkgo Hillside, of the OST, which I really really enjoy. Download it here.

Several things that jumped out at me while I was thinking about this – of course, am wasting time. But what a pleasant way of doing it. πŸ˜€

– The beginning of the episode tallying in with all available indicators as to be the last heist Iljimae performs. Remember that Iljimae broke into the palace in the beginning, with the help of all his guy friends? It fits. There’s also a banquet going on, and the people in the palace have been forewarned… since all this stuff that we’re seeing is technically in the past, I hope the writers let us have some stuff after Iljimae comes out to the plum blossom garden… if that happens, then the narrative will take over sometime late in 19 or starting from 20. Still don’t see how they’re going to tie up all those loose ends, but bless them for trying.

– Asshat king should die, but he probably won’t, given that Iljimae is doing his ‘must-not-kill-people’ thing. He’s still going for dragging the king to his tree and making him apologize, which would work only in a bizarre parallel universe where the king actually has a conscience. Iljimae will most likely use the incident with Qing to force the king to abdicate to another one of his sons.

– Eun Chae’s words: The first and last love of my life. Err. Not to jump to conclusions, but it sounds like she won’t live. And that’s kind of … not happy for anyone.

– Bong Soon and Kunghe’s fate. Besides their own conflict, Bong Soon’s currently in danger from about 40 highly trained fighters. Even with Kunghe’s help, that’s a tall order. And if Bong Soon dies, Kunghe will jump after her killer, and go for the assassin in purple in a big way. If Kunghe dies protecting her, Bong Soon will feel super sad and probably not be in the mood to see Iljimae and Eun Chae romance each other.

– I know people have this theory that if one girl dies, the other won’t, but doesn’t that depend on how the writers are feeling that day? What if a fly landed in their breakfast and they decided they wanted the world to suffer?

– What about Shi Hoo? Will his mentor kill him? If not, will he find out who he is (more like believe it, since he already knows about half)? What will he do if he does? Will he help Yong? Will he step in at a crucial moment and save Yong’s life by sacrificing his own? Will he go crazy (with such a tightly wound personality, also not too surprising)? WWSHD?

– Kyumi’s mommy… needs to show up and meet her son. I swear. Like, it’s just too cruel making her live her entire life out and not see her son. At least send her to Dani.

Sooooooo…

Worst possible ending: Bong Soon dies from imperial soldiers, Kunghe dies avenging her on the assassin. Shi Hoo finds out his history and fights the assassin, killing him, but then he goes crazy from being responsible for his father and half-sister’s deaths. Iljimae asks Eun Chae to take care of his mother(s) and goes to the palace, is killed by king because he believes in the theory of non-killage. Eun Chae is captured by the king and tortured to death (or is forced to marry the ambassador’s son and kills herself). She writes the story of Iljimae out for Dani before she dies and thus the legend is passed down for all generations. This ending is known as the Everyone Dies Ending.

Mediumly cruel ending: Kunghe dies protecting Bong Soon from the soldiers and assassin dude in purple. Iljimae robs the palace sucessfully. Bong Soon dies in being a decoy Iljimae, and Eun Chae is killed by the assassin dude to avenge the robbery. Shi Hoo finds out his family history after researching the symbols and goes after his mentor, killing him after an epic battle. Iljimae forces the bad king to abdicate to one of his sons, and goes on being a heroic thief.

Happy ending for Bongjimaes: Eun Chae gets killed by the assassin, Iljimae goes crazy, but Shi Hoo gets to the assassin first. All missions succeed, and Yong upholds his promise to take Bong Soon away with his two mommies and lives in the mountains forever and ever, with 2^125978 children. Shi Hoo does… something.

Happy ending for Iljichaes: Everyone survives, Iljimae clears his father’s name and is reinstated as a noble (evil king dies by one of his own plots, somehow) but decides to live far away from other people in society. Shi Hoo and Dani reconcile, and Shi Hoo does his best as an important minister to ensure things are fair. Kyumi’s mommy makes yummy food for her happy grandkids.

Honestly, I don’t know. Feel free to discuss!
