Oh, to be in high school again…
5 05 2008… but I’m not.
So now I have to face things called finals (wish they had a cool name like N.E.W.T.s, but no, they’re just boring old final exams), which are worth 50% if not more of the term’s percentage. And they have started. Rather, they will start.
I would love to continue blogging for the next three weeks, but my brain’s going to have the consistency of cheese curds, so it won’t be very interesting anyway.
I’ll be back on the 21st, for that is when my last exam ends. Woot for timing!
Loves,
Sevenses
P.S. If you’re bored, go take a look in my ‘Cool Stuff’ section!
Finals… 50%?? Wow, here in Ontario it’s totally different… more like 20-30%.
Well, at least after this you will be off at the university that (hopefully) you wanted to go to! I’d really like to ask which one it is, but yeah… all the cyberspace safety issues
They can be from anywhere of 50% to 80%… kinda scary, actually.
Lol, I hope so too. Still haven’t heard back from them yet. Does that give you any clues?
After your exams are over, you must check out the korean variety show, “We Got Married” to your 20-somethings list of dramas/movies to watch. It brings butterflies into my tummy and a huge grin.
Med school can wait (I’m joking, of course!).
Hee hee well since idabi mentioned med school, so I shall guess… McGill if you’re staying nearer home, and.. UofT (duh) or Queen’s for out-of-province =D McMaster Health Science isn’t bad either…
Lol, such ‘Asian’ choices of universities

Can’t understand any of it, mdr… I think I’m good in high school, even if it sucks, I can still be lazy and sleep in class.
See you then, when your brain gets better and Iljimae starts to air!!!!
Well it’s either McGill or one of the French ones. Watch me stumble around and kill myself this time next year for going to uni in French.
Enjoy high school while you can, flyingcrispi. *waves*
is this talk about grad school or just undergrad?
It’s a special undergrad program that lets people do med school after a year of preparation. 80 people are accepted out of the province, usually from around 400 applicants.
Do you have the same thing, irugnotmis?
ohh yeah we have the same thing. but ours can take up to 2 or 3 years before exam your way into the program, depending on how many courses you take per quarter.
what do you want to specialize in?
Yecch. 2/3 years?! That’s the time it takes to do a bachelor’s here.
I’m not sure yet. I’ll see when I get there, though at the moment I’m leaning away from surgery.
so you’re going to be a 2nd year in college? then do you need to transfer colleges to enter the program?
Nah. If I hadn’t gotten into med school, then I would have started my first year of uni this fall. It’s … kinda strange, to say the least.
so is it like a separate training program that’s not considered university but once you enter the program then you’re into med school, otherwise you just enter regular university?
when i said our “training” period can take up to 2 to 3 years, it’s included in the college education. like you’re already in an university, you take a couple years of preparation to take a set of classes that prepare you for the program and you have the chance to continue studying at the same school for your masters, if you score well.
I think it’s still university - the first year, the ‘pre’ year, you are considered to be part of the Faculty of Science. After that, you are into med school proper, and thus in training for an MD, not anything else (unless you want to do one of the joint MD-Ph.D/Masters/MBA programs, which all take much longer).
So basically your 2-3 years has been pared down to 1 year here. In some places they dispense with the ‘premed’ process entirely, which is rather dubious, but whatever works for them.
OH so we spend our undergrand here as premed and then go to grad school for med school. so you guys only take four years for MD?
Yeah, but it’s not a complete undergrad, only a transition for you to fill in the necessary pre-reqs. The MD is 4 years, plus the premed year - total of 5 years. Whereas B.Sc + MD = 7 years. That’s the main appeal, I think.
Are you in uni right now?
yeah i am.
our premed is 4 years then we go to med school afterwards for the actual MD.
so 8 years for MD here and then a year of intern, 3 yrs of residency, another 3 years for specialty then you’re a doctor.
Internships, residencies - *headdesk*
We’ll both be old by the time we start practicing medicine. XD
i actually envy you a lot though. you at least know you are going to med school for sure. i don’t know if i want to do research or go for neuroscience…
I’m worried that ’saving’ two years will take away from experience and maturity that would actually benefit me. How much does a teenager know about what she wants to do for the rest of her life? I mean, we think we know, but it’s all up in the air until we actually do it.
Anyway, about the researching, it’s possible to do both. I know people who work in hospitals/clinics half the time and do lab research on the side. It all depends on what you want to do.
but the whole medical school sounds so formidable.
what do you mean by “saving two years”?
XD Doing anything, and doing it well, seems formidable to me. Just a matter of choosing your battle…
I meant, regular B.Sc+MD is 2 years longer than the premed program.
I’m sure you’ll do well whatever you decide - though I think the US is slightly better placed for research - if you’re Canadian…
getting in is the Major problem here
Do your best!! I have faith in you. How many years do you have left before you can apply? *gets into cheerleading pose* *pom-poms fly*
i actually want to finish a year early and start applying next year… but i still need to take some exams and do more lab works to get the experience. so i’m actually considering whether or not i should stay for four years…
