Wanted, movie

Yeah yeah. I know. It has absolutely nothing in common with the graphic novel of the same title, except for the protagonist, who is named Wesley Gibson.

And I know they butchered the plot and meaning of the original Wanted, which tends to annoy me in books I dearly love, but since James McAvoy is starring in it, I’ll give it a shot.

Undoubtedly it will turn into one of those underdog-to-hero things. Oh well. There are worse things to be.

Clichés inherent in the system:

- Boring, broody, yet strangely hot if only he would dress well (and by well we mean black leather) hero? Check.
- Gorgeous and mysterious woman? With guns? And who making out with the hero? Check.
- Secret monastic brotherhood? Check.
- Fate/destiny/any variant thereof on the free will issue? Check.
- Gunfighting? Check.
- Underdog with surprising powers? Check.
- Assassins? Check.
- Mystic mumbo-jumbo? Check.
- Did we mention the guns?

But James McAvoy! The same one we fell in love with in Atonement and wondered at in Penelope (meaning, why was he there, even if he is rakishly cute and yummy?).

Yes, I am a sucker for the pretty faces, how could you tell?
